Laundry Organizer

Remember my post about the Laundry Organizer from Ana-White.com? I am so happy to unveil our finished product. My husband is so talented, I just can't stand it. (Okay, maybe I can, since I have a long list of other furniture projects for him.)

It was Andy's idea to spray paint the metal white. I thought it added a nice touch.
Here it is, at work and in all it's truthful glory: full of dirty clothes. I love it!
Now the baskets aren't all over our bedroom floor. We now have a 'laundry station'. I'm trying to come op with a cute way to label each basket: whites, lights, darks, etc. I love this system, though. Before, I would do laundry once a week and it would turn into a MARATHON. I never had time to fold them all, since Abric would destroy the house while I was upstairs folding. Now, I do two loads of laundry a day. I can have everything washed, folded, and put away by bedtime.

This laundry system is definitely a keeper.

Laundry Quandry

I have been looking for a tried and true system for my laundry. Since we moved to our new house, our washer and dryer is upstairs. (Which I love more than words can say.) BUT, to Andy's dislike, our bedroom has turned into the Laundry Room.

I'm not the most thrilled about it either, but watching TV while folding clothes is my multi-tasking, guilty pleasure. I can't give it up.

Therefore, we must compromise.

I finally found what I have been looking for! Knock-Off Wood saves the day again.

Crafty/Organizational Attempt

Decorating has never been my strong point, which is obvious when you look at my bare walls. I have this odd, deep-rooted feeling that decor has to be functional. I've noticed a whole lotta numbers when I look through the Pottery Barn catalog, so after months of thinking about it, I finally decided to just go for it.

Here is what I did:

• I chose a font in photoshop, enlarged each number, then printed them *mirror-image* on some scrapbook paper.
• I cut the numbers out, then distressed the edges with walnut ink.
• I mod-podged the numbers onto the TRONES shoe storage from IKEA.

We use the shoe cabinets to hold the boys' backpacks because there just isn't any room in the closet. I use the shelf about the cubbies for library books because we recently lost a library book and had to purchase it. (Which kind of defeats the purpose of going to the library, doesn't it?)

The Great Clothing Swap

It's that time of year again! The time to drag the size appropriate bins of clothing upstairs, sort through them, and find the fall/winter clothes. Then you have to go through all the clothing from everyone's drawers (let's hope they are all clean), get rid of the 'rags', and then swap the Spring/Summer clothing.

Apparently Ewan and Abric do.

I had only brought 2 bins upstairs, but then decided that I needed to take a quick shower or it was never going to happen with the busy evening that was scheduled: help kids with homework, make dinner for us and for a family who recently had a baby, soccer practice, and the Fall Fair at the elementary school.

When I came downstairs, it looked like a bomb went off. At least Ewan found his old soccer shirt (actually Andy's old soccer shirt) and Abric found a long-sleeved doggy shirt.

Oh, joy.

When Andy came home, he just gave me a look.

"Don't ask," I said.

Getting Organized

I saw this recipe planner DIY project and wanted to post it before I forgot about it. Now, hopefully I can get around to making it by at least March. (Is that too lofty of a goal??)
